Please note that what follows is a long-term
vision for our Canaan Advance Center.
The space we inhabit shapes
the state of our mind-body-spirit. If you want a creative
conference, meeting or ministry, you need creative space.
The right space sets the stage for new insights and fresh
thinking.
CANAAN offers you space that is a total immersion in art and
beauty, both natural and human. The spiritual viewing and
appreciation of beautiful, historic, and extraordinary objects
of art (the collection is especially strong in 18th century
European and 19th century rare Americana) is a poorly understood
and richly neglected gift of God. To receive this gift, however,
we must open up what a consumer culture closes: "eyes
that do not see" (in Le Corbusier's phrasing). At CANAAN
you are invited to open the eyes every time you grasp a handle
to open a door, every time you sink into a couch, every time
you bury yourself in the bed sheets, every time you sink down,
exhausted, on the lush mountain floor.
Artistic treasures at CANAAN
are held in trust for all, and while art is not seen as a
secular religion (as in some museums), art is here a deeply
spiritual experience that is receptive to and expressive of
the spirit and flesh of all of beings and the glory of a Creator
God.
Open seven days a week, year
round, all of our facilities are smoke free and accessible
to wheelchairs. The kitchen specializes in veggie ventures.
If you are needing a hideaway in the hills or monastic repose,
your mind and body cannot find a more tranquil, serene, healing
environment. If you are needing the creative charges that
come with saloning, conferencing and think-tanking, you cannot
find a more abounding atmosphere in conviviality, laughter
and good times.
